Skills Acquisition Program
SAP is Byron Bay FC's advanced development program for young players ready for an increased training load and stronger technical focus, delivered alongside MiniRoos to support long-term player development within the BBFC Football Pathways.

SAP Program
The Skill Acquisition Program (SAP) is a nationally recognised Football Australia development program delivered by licensed clubs. Byron Bay FC holds a foundation SAP licence on the Far North Coast, with the program supported by Northern NSW Football.
SAP provides additional weekly training, targeted skill development, and higher-level match and carnival experiences designed to accelerate technical ability and game understanding in a structured, development-focused environment.

Development Focus
SAP develops technical skill and game understanding in a more demanding football environment.
Training focuses on four core areas:
- First touch
- Striking the ball
- 1v1 situations
- Running with the ball
Players are also challenged to play at a higher tempo, make quicker decisions under pressure, and apply their skills effectively on match day through stronger opposition, Gala Days and SAP playing formats supported by Northern NSW Football.

Training & Matches
SAP involves an increased weekly commitment combining training and match exposure to support accelerated player development.
Training
Accredited SAP coaches deliver high-repetition sessions focused on technical skill and game understanding.
Matches & Carnivals
SAP 8s, 9s and Girls play in regular MiniRoos teams with additional SAP carnivals. SAP 10s & 11s compete in dedicated SAP teams within the MiniRoos SAP playing pool. All squads participate in a minimum of three SAP carnivals per season, typically on Sundays.

Expectations
SAP is a development-focused program that places equal importance on football improvement and behaviour.
Players are expected to attend consistently, listen, apply feedback, and show respect to coaches, teammates, opponents, and officials.
Parents are expected to support learning and effort over results and model respectful sideline behaviour.

Club Communications
BBFC uses a structured, club-wide communications system to keep families informed without information overload. Each BBFC SAP team has dedicated team communication, with important club updates shared separately for clarity and consistency.
Information is reinforced across BBFC's digital channels and in-club displays, helping families stay up to date throughout the season.

Pathways
SAP supports players as they progress from MiniRoos into youth football by building strong technical skills, game understanding, and positive habits.
The program sits within the player development pathway supported by Northern NSW Football and is designed to prepare players for future challenges, without guaranteeing selection or advancement.
